So, what are the health benefits of HONEY and how can I use it?

Honey in a jar

Apart from being really delicious, honey does have some amazing health benefits. We’ve summarized the health benefits in a short post, and then we added what you can actually do with this “wonder of nature.”

Honey has been used since ancient times as both a food and a medicine for good health.

The Benefits

According to Healthline, the health benefits of honey are as follows:

Honey contains a high amount of important antioxidants. Scientists believe that the combination of organic acids and phonelic compounds give honey its high concentrate of antioxidants. Why are antioxidants important? Well, antioxidants help to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer.

Honey is “much better” than sugar for diabetics. While honey does increase blood sugar levels, it does not do as much damage as refined sugar. However, this should still be consumed with caution, especially if you are a diabetic.

Honey can lower triglycerides. Studies show that honey can lower triglyceride levels, which when elevated can increase the risk for heart attacks and type 2 diabetes.

So, what can I do with the honey in my kitchen?

Firstly, there are no rules as to what you can do with the honey in the kitchen. Wait, the only rule is-don’t eat too much of it! You can literally try everything with honey.

We love how the folks at Sunny Hunny put it, “Spoon, spread, lick, drizzle, repeat!”

  1. Try honey with a cup of Rooibos tea. This a great addition to a cup of warm tea. Just make sure not to add any sugar as well. Adding honey gives the Rooibos tea a sweet taste while at the same time giving you the amazing amount of nutrients that can be found in honey.

2. Caramelize onions with some honey. Chop onions into thin strips, let them brown and add about 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar. Then add some honey and white sugar to give those onions a sweet taste. This is perfect for a burger night and these onions just make the burgers so much more scrumptious.

3. Create an Oat & Honey Facemask. Soak 1 tablespoon of oat bran in water and leave for about 10 minutes. Mix the oat bran with the following ingredients: 1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt, half a tablespoon of Eat Naked Honey and one drop of pepperment essential oil. Apply this to your face and leave for about 15-20 minutes. Now you can remove this using some warm water. (P.S. we wanted to also try to eat this, but we’re not sure if that would work out good)

Credit goes out to the folks at Eat Naked for this idea!

Okay, so there are a lot more things that you can do with honey. Did you know you also get vegan honey, or the more formal word would be “plant based honey?”
